Despite his dictatorial power, Putin has vulnerabilities.
A significant victory for Ukraine on the front could deal a painful blow to Kremlin leader Volodymyr Putin, potentially prompting him to end the war.
This opinion was expressed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor at UCU Yaroslav Hrytsak in an interview with "24 Kanal".
"I see a weak point for Putin: if Ukraine achieves a significant victory on the front. This would undermine Putin's image as invincible. If this happens, a rebellion could start, but not in Russian society, rather among his closest circle," Hrytsak believes.
Another factor that could undermine Putin's desire to fight in Ukraine is a decision by the United States to threaten major Chinese banks with secondary sanctions.
"The levers here are in the hands of the U.S. The most impactful move would be for the American government to threaten major Chinese banks with secondary sanctions - sanctions that would cut off these banks' access to global markets. This would indeed be a significant blow, forcing Beijing to think twice, or even three times, about whether to assist Russia," the professor explained, noting that this decision would disrupt substantial financial flows to the aggressor country.
