The Russians, who wanted to release prisoners for provocations and encouraged rebellions, decided to take control of penitentiaries in the invaded territories.

Despite the invasion, all employees in the penitentiary services remain at their jobs so that there are no risks that thousands of prisoners will be among Ukrainians in uncontrolled territories, Denys Maliuska, Minister of Justice of Ukraine said on the air of the Ukrainian marathon.

“In Kherson, for more than two months, the institutions for serving sentences were under our control, and accordingly, everyone performed their duties. Last week, the Russians decided to take control of our penitentiary institutions, and since our employees are military, paramilitary, they cannot follow the instructions of the occupied government and so they refused to obey”, Maliuska said.

He said that now it is the Russians who are responsible, but reassured that there is no reason to worry, because according to preliminary information, there are no plans to release prisoners in all invaded territories.

At the same time, he noted that this issue for the Russian invaders is very “attractive” for various special operations.

“The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation tried to organize something like riots and even free the penitentiary institutions. In order to show the locals that the Ukrainian government allegedly issued instructions to release prisoners so that they could run around the city there. This special operation lasted for a week. They tried to reach out to the leadership of penitentiary institutions in order to provoke such actions,” the Minister added.
