The general stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will primarily use Western weapons against enemy missile systems, which are striking Ukrainian towns and cities almost daily.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, outlined the targets that Ukraine will strike once it receives permission to use Western weapons on Russian territory.
The general said this in an interview with CNN.
Sirsky assured that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will use Western weapons on Russian territory only against military targets.
"We will use weapons only against military targets, first of all against missile systems that attack populated areas almost every day. This leads to the death of civilians," the commander-in-chief said.
He reminded that missile strikes in Ukraine have destroyed many schools and hospitals, including the well-known "Ohmatdyt" hospital, which was damaged by Russian cruise missiles in central Kyiv.
"These incidents happen every day. Both adults and children are dying. The recent strikes on Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy - essentially, no city in Ukraine that has not felt or suffered these losses. This horror of war, wherever you didn't go, we see the results of these strikes, destroyed buildings, schools, kindergartens," said Sirskyi.
He points out that the main purpose of using Western long-range weapons is to neutralize Russian missile systems.
"Of course, this includes strikes on their depots, bases where weapons and fuel are stored for the army. It’s also about targeting their logistics, which facilitates the transfer of these weapons to the front lines, and their airfields from which Russian strike aircraft and the Aerospace Forces launch missile strikes, using guided aerial bombs to hit targets from distances of 70 kilometers or more. These bombs are used to destroy schools and residential areas. These are our targets," the general explained.
Syrskyi also sttessed that the Ukrainian military is fighting the Russian army, not civilians.
