The wastewater treatment facilities of the plant in Tyotkino were full before the incident, but after the accident they were empty.
It has been determined that the pollution of the Desna River resulted from a discharge from a sugar factory in Kursk region.
This was reported by Oleh Lystopad, an expert from the National Interests Advocacy Network “ANTS” and an environmentalist, on the air of KYIV24.
According to Lystopad, information from the Sumy Regional Military Administration confirms that the pollution originated from the sugar factory. Satellite images show that before the incident, the factory’s wastewater treatment facilities in Tyotkino were full, but after the accident, they were found to be empty.
He also noted that the extent of the pollution and the flow rates of the Seym and Desna rivers are known. He suggests contacting the National Academy of Sciences to calculate a forecast using mathematical models. This will help predict when the pollution might reach Kyiv, given the necessary computational resources and methods.
