The Head of the Regional Military Administration noted that the water, which became unusable due to this terrorist attack, would be enough to quench the thirst of the entire world for two days.
The estimated amount of damage to the environment, after the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant was blown up by Russia, is currently more than 1.5 billion euros.
Oleksandr Prokudin, the Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, stated this after the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management.
"Approximately 55,000 hectares of forest have been flooded. The amount of water that became unusable due to this act of terrorism would have been enough to quench the thirst of the entire world for two days," he stated.
During the committee meeting at the Verkhovna Rada, a number of issues regarding the improvement of the ecological situation in southern Ukraine were discussed. These include continuous monitoring of the environmental and epidemiological conditions, urgent drilling of additional wells, providing residents with drinking water, and the restoration of the region.
"One of the issues is state control over the pricing of drinking water in the Kherson region. The position here is clear - no one has the right to profit from the misfortune of others," Prokudin emphasized.
