Ukrainian officials continue to report that Russian forces increasingly employ chemical weapons in the war.

This was stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

On September 9, the Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Support Troops reported that in August, Russian forces used ammunition equipped with dangerous chemicals and chemical agents 447 times. Overall, between February 15, 2023, and August 24, 2024, the enemy used such ammunition 4,035 times.

The Command of the Support Troops also stated that the occupiers are using K-51 and RG-VO gas grenades to deliver ammunition containing prohibited chemical substances. The enemy also uses unidentified chemical compounds.

Ukrainian officials and a Russian military unit had previously reported an increasing number of cases where invaders used chemical agents in combat, which are banned by the Chemical Weapons Convention, to which Russia is a signatory.
