The demolition of the church by the Russian occupiers began on July 21. The dome and the upper part of the church have already been dismantled.
The Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied city of Yevpatoria have started demolishing the Holy Cross Church of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. This is the last Ukrainian church in Crimea.
This was reported by former Deputy Prosecutor General Gyunduz Mamedov.
It is noted that the destruction of the church began on July 21. The dome and the upper part of the church have already been dismantled. Meanwhile, the publication "Voice of Crimea" writes that since 2019, the OCU parish in Yevpatoria has been under pressure to comply with the decision of the Russian-controlled court, which ordered the church to be demolished.
Additionally, the cynicism lies in the fact that the court decision states that the demolition should be carried out by the community of this church. Despite the threats from the occupiers, the parishioners did not comply. Because of this, the Russian-controlled authorities of Yevpatoria again appealed to the court to demolish the church themselves and to recover the costs from the parishioners.
"Another manifestation of the systematic policy of discrimination against Ukrainians by Russia based on nationality under occupation. Metropolitan Kliment reported that the last Ukrainian church in occupied Crimea is being dismantled. The occupying city authorities of Yevpatoria have begun the demolition of the Holy Cross Church of the OCU," Gyunduz Mamedov emphasized.
