Ukraine requires additional air defense systems to enhance the protection of its energy facilities from Russian shelling.
This was emphasized by Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko in an interview at the "Energy of Business" event organized by Forbes Ukraine.
"The recent massive attack on August 26 demonstrated Russia's willingness to use all types of weaponry, including their most expensive modified weapons, to strike at our energy sector. The main solution for protecting energy infrastructure is air defense. A passive defense system is ineffective against ballistic weapons used by the enemy, and the latest strike indicates that they are ready to use the most modern ballistic weapons and cluster munitions against our energy sector. Thus, the only solution that provides a 100% guarantee - if we can even talk about a 100% guarantee - is the air defense system and the professionalism of our military," he stated.
The minister emphasizes that Ukraine is working at all levels with Western partners and allies to strengthen air defense systems.
"We are working around the clock to improve and enhance this protection. It is very important, without a doubt, that the promises or public statements made regarding assistance to us in the context of air defense systems are implemented quickly," Halushchenko underscored.
