Russian forces unleashed a series of drone strikes on residential quarters in Sumy overnight on April 21, sparking fires and causing widespread destruction. The number of casualties has rised to 15.
The report was confirmed by the National Police of Ukraine and Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
Assault on civilians
Overnight, the enemy once again targeted civilians and critical infrastructure. Several strikes hit a residential neighborhood of the city.
Preliminary reports indicate heavy damage to apartment buildings: windows were blown out across multiple floors, and parked cars erupted in flames.
As of now, 15 people are confirmed injured. This includes three teenage girls, aged 13, 15, and 17, who have been hospitalized and are receiving emergency care.
«The majority of those injured in tonight’s Russian drone attack are elderly citizens,» Hryhorov noted. «All are receiving the necessary medical attention.»
The full scale of the destruction is still being assessed. Forensic teams and explosives experts are currently on-site, surveying the impact zones and documenting the aftermath of the assault.
Furthermore, law enforcement officials have confirmed a direct hit on the roof of a medical facility. Emergency services are currently inspecting the site.
