The detention of Hungarian intelligence agents is evidence of the high-quality and systematic work of the entire Security Service of Ukraine, particularly its counterintelligence.

This was stated by political scientist and former MP Oleksandr Chernenko.

The expert emphasizes that stopping such espionage activities is a key issue of national security.

“The SSU’s counterintelligence has demonstrated that no country can conduct subversive activities on our territory. The detention of a Hungarian agent is a landmark event. It’s the first time in our history and shows a new level of SSU counterintelligence work, which the "Orbanists" were clearly unprepared for,” Chernenko stresses.

The political scientist believes that the espionage network operated with the approval of official Budapest.

“Now, it has been demonstrated to everyone, including Europeans, once again: the Hungarian authorities not only made unfriendly statements toward Ukraine but also sanctioned espionage activities in our country. Thanks to the SSU, Ukraine now has irrefutable evidence of such activities by Hungarian intelligence. The Hungarians have previously acted extremely arrogantly in Zakarpattia, but now they’ve felt that they’ll get a punch in the teeth,” the former MP writes.

“In the European Union, there has long been talk of stripping Hungary of its voting rights. Orban blocks key EU demands and often plays in the same orchestra as Putin. The exposure of the Hungarian agent network is yet another argument for European countries. An argument that shows: Orban and his entourage are one big agent network. And the threads of this network lead to the Kremlin,” the expert concludes.
