Mysterious Russian drone emerges on the frontlines: What we know so far

A reconnaissance V2U — part of a cutting-edge family of AI-powered drones — has made its debut at the front.

This week, Ukrainian forces have spotted a new reconnaissance variant of the V2U drone, equipped with artificial intelligence, across multiple sectors of the front. Unlike its strike-oriented counterpart, this version is distinguished by the absence of central tail stabilizers.

This was reported by military communications and tech specialist Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov.

After completing its reconnaissance mission, the drone descends back to earth via parachute. Notably, the device contains no Russian-made components, and both its manufacturer and developer remain a mystery.

“When we examined captured units, the V2U program listed several names within the series. There’s the strike drone. Now we have the recon model. The only one left is a courier drone for logistics,” Flash noted.

He describes the evolution of this AI-driven UAV line as one of the most innovative — and simultaneously dangerous — trends in modern warfare.
