Russian forces have sharply escalated assault operations in the border areas of the Sumy region, ramping up pressure on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Following a period of relatively stable positional warfare, the enemy has significantly intensified its breakthrough efforts in the Sumy borderlands.
This report comes from military analyst Bohdan Myroshnykov.
According to Myroshnykov, the sector had seen months of so-called «positional struggle» with no major breakthroughs. However, roughly a month before the announced «truce,» Russian troops deployed reinforcements to the area and began a more aggressive push.
The analyst notes that the occupiers exploited the «truce» period to bolster their positions, moving drone operators and artillery closer to the front lines. As a result, the pressure on Ukrainian units has only mounted.
«The situation was difficult even before April 12, but the enemy utilized this „truce“ to the maximum to further intensify their attacks,» Myroshnykov stated.
Currently, he assesses the situation in the Sumy region as grim and not yet fully stabilized.
While the expert believes that Ukrainian forces will eventually manage to stabilize this sector of the front, he warns of a different threat: the surge in activity near Sumy may be part of a broader strategic plan.
Specifically, the maneuvers may be designed to draw Ukrainian reserves away from critical sectors in the Kharkiv region, such as Lyptsi, Vovchansk, and Kupiansk. Should this succeed, Russian forces could later launch a reinforced assault in those areas.
The analyst suggests that these actions align with the tactics of Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, who has previously employed diversionary maneuvers ahead of large-scale offensives.
Consequently, the situation in northeastern Ukraine remains tense and potentially dangerous.
