The Russian military will probably never cease its strikes on Ukraine’s energy sector.
This view was expressed to TSN.ua by military expert Oleh Zhdanov.
«They will simply step up strikes in the summer. The energy sector will never be spared, ” he said.
Why attack Ukraine’s energy in summer?
The expert pointed out that electricity consumption actually rises during the summer.
«Statistics show that power consumption is higher in summer than in winter, because everyone wants air conditioners and fans running. That’s why they won’t stop hitting the energy sector. They’ve found a vulnerability, ” he said.
Oleh Zhdanov also flagged issues with protecting facilities.
«Russia realizes that, first, we were quite careless in building shelters. Several criminal cases are now underway regarding concrete shelters at energy sites. Second, we don’t have enough air defense systems. The country is the largest in Europe, so we cannot cover everything, ” Zhdanov noted.
He added that Russia may select new targets as summer approaches.
«Putin will try to exert pressure. The worse the situation on the front, the more he will push on the rear and society, ” the expert concluded.
