President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposes a truce during Ukraine’s presidential elections, which the U.S. insists should take place.

He made the remarks on December 11 during an online meeting of the «Coalition of the Willing.»

«We are ready to work with President Trump in any format. And if President Trump focuses on Ukraine’s elections, I want to say this clearly — we can try to hold the elections. Ukraine does not hide from democracy, ” the president said.

Zelenskyy also clarified that elections can take place only if security is guaranteed, «and the U.S. can provide the most help with this.»

He believes the ceasefire should cover at least the election period and voting.

«This is a matter that needs discussion. Honestly, here in Ukraine we think the U.S. should talk to Russia about this. Let’s see what happens next, ” Zelenskyy concluded.
