The new Russian nuclear submarine is a carrier of Kalibr, Tsirkon, and Oniks missiles. The Russians have already built 5 units.

This was reported on the air of «KYIV24» by Andriy Ryzhenko, retired Navy Captain 1st Rank.

According to him, Russia already has five of these submarines built, four more are under construction, and two are planned.

«But I want to say that at the start of the whole program, they planned to build as many as thirty such submarines. So, in principle, not everything is, let’s say, going that well,» he noted.

Key characteristics of the submarine

According to Ryzhenko, the main advantages of the nuclear submarine are:

  • a new reactor that can operate for 25–30 years without refueling;

  • 10 torpedo tubes of 533 mm caliber and 8 launchers for cruise missiles (each carrying 4 or 5 missiles);

  • capable of carrying Kalibr, Tsirkon, and Oniks missiles.
