China is more interested in peace than Russia because it depends on global economic stability. That also applies to the war in Ukraine. However, Beijing wants peace on its own terms, political analyst Serhii Taran said on Kyiv24.

Why China wants peace more than Russia

Political analyst Serhii Taran says China is now more interested in global peace than Russia because its economy relies heavily on stable world markets, which have been disrupted by the wars in Ukraine and Iran.

While China may appear to be Russia’s unwavering ally, the reality is far more complex. Strategically, their interests are beginning to decouple.

Their interests align in weakening the dominance of the United States as the world’s only major power. But when it comes to global market stability, Russia and China have sharply different priorities.

While Russia uses wars to intimidate other countries and pursue geopolitical goals, China relies primarily on economic influence.

«For China, the strategic goal is still peace, but naturally on China’s terms. And those terms include access to Western markets and the removal of restrictions on technology trade, ” Serhii Taran said.

According to the analyst, if Donald Trump manages to reach a compromise with Beijing on economic issues, China could influence the end of the war in Ukraine, including through pressure on Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, China officially confirmed the dates of Trump’s visit to Beijing.
