Massive Russian attack on Ukraine: Where explosions rang out and the shelling’s aftermath
On Thursday, 30 October, the Russian army carried out a massive missile and drone assault across Ukraine. Impacts, including casualties and destruction, were recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Cherkasy regions.

Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine overnight on October 30. The enemy struck with both drones and missiles. There are casualties and widespread damage.

Russia launched drones and missiles
At around 4:47 a.m., monitoring channels reported explosions in Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The attack involved Shahed-type kamikaze drones, ballistic missiles, and Kalibr cruise missiles. Tu-95MS bombers were also expected to launch Kh-101 missiles.
Explosions in Ivano-Frankivsk region
On October 30, explosions rang out in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. Air raid sirens sounded at 4:30 a.m., followed by multiple explosions at 4:44 a.m. in several districts.
Svitlana Onyshchuk warned residents of the threat of kamikaze drone and missile strikes from Russia and urged them not to ignore air raid signals.
A hellish night in Zaporizhzhia
It emerged that the occupiers struck Zaporizhzhia with at least 20 UAVs and eight missiles. There were hits on a dormitory.
«Several floors there were destroyed. There were several fires in residential areas. Infrastructure facilities were also damaged. Two of the injured were taken to hospital—a 45-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man. Two more women received medical aid on site and refused hospitalisation,» wrote Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Head Ivan Fedorov.
The latest data show 11 people injured in the enemy attack on Zaporizhzhia. Among the wounded were six children: three girls and three boys, aged three to six. All are receiving the necessary medical care.
Strike on Dnipro
On October 30, the Russian army launched a missile strike on Dnipro — the missile hit an industrial facility.
«The enemy attacked Dnipro with a missile. It was aimed at an enterprise. There were no deaths or injuries,» Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Head Vladyslav Hayvanenko wrote.
Meanwhile, the enemy hit Pokrovsk and Mykolaiv communities in Synelnykove district with drones. Fires broke out. Infrastructure and private homes were damaged, but fortunately, there were no casualties.
The occupiers targeted Nikopol district with FPV drones and artillery. Nikopol, Marhanets, Pokrovsk and Myrove communities were under fire. No fatalities.
Attack on Cherkasy region
Air defence forces were downing enemy targets in Cherkasy region overnight on October 30. However, infrastructure damage was reported in Zvenyhorod district.
Preliminary reports indicate a Russian missile and 12 drones were shot down in Cherkasy region. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
In Zvenyhorodka district, drone debris damaged a power line, windows and roofs in at least four homes. A fire broke out in a farm building and has been extinguished. Assessments of damage are ongoing.
Governor Ihor Taburets added that, due to the difficult situation in the national power grid, emergency power cuts were introduced in the morning. By 9 a.m., the region switched to scheduled hourly outages.
Vinnytsia region left without heat and water
Following the Russian strike in the night leading of October 30, the town of Ladyzhyn in Vinnytsia region was left without heat and water supply. Utility services are working to restore systems and launch alternative solutions, including public water columns and technical water delivery. Preparations are also underway to restore heating.
Local authorities announced that kindergartens will not operate today.
As the city administration noted, special teams will soon begin assessing damage, and residents of the most affected homes will be relocated to safe places. In addition, the city expects power supply to be restored.
Later, authorities reported casualties. Among them was a child.
«Unfortunately, we have civilian casualties—four adults with light to moderate injuries and one seven-year-old child in serious condition,» said First Deputy Head of Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration Nataliya Zabolotna.
Consequences in Ivano-Frankivsk region
Authorities reported that at dawn, Russia struck a critical infrastructure facility in Prykarpattia. Air defence forces were active.
«As of now, there are no reports of casualties,» said Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration Head Svitlana Onyshchuk.
Two households sustained minor damage.
Kyiv region also hit
The aftermath of the massive shelling is also being recorded in Kyiv region. According to the State Emergency Service, a drone strike in the city of Boryspil caused a fire in a two-story residential building. One woman was hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Two cars also caught fire after being hit by drone debris. «The fire partially destroyed the house and damaged a car. Firefighters have contained the blaze, ” officials said.
In the Bila Tserkva district, one private home was damaged.
Power outages across the country
Due to the Russian shelling, emergency power outages were introduced in most regions of Ukraine. They were expected to be lifted once the energy system stabilised.
DTEK also reported emergency cuts in Kyiv, Kyiv, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
«As soon as possible, rescuers, repair teams and energy workers will begin addressing the attack’s aftermath, restoring power and assessing damage. Grateful to every specialist fighting for light and heat in our homes,» wrote Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.
On 30 October, electricity consumption restrictions are in place across all regions of Ukraine. Hourly outage schedules and power limit schedules have been applied.
«Following the massive missile and drone attack on energy infrastructure, power consumption limits have been introduced across all regions of Ukraine, ” Ukrenergo said in a statement.
Russian forces attacked DTEK thermal power plants in several regions of Ukraine. Equipment sustained serious damage, and repair efforts are underway.
«This marks the third large-scale assault on the company’s thermal power facilities this October, ” DTEK stated.
