Military expert predicts possible ceasefire in autumn

The Kremlin is not ready for peace, but there is still a chance for a temporary truce.

Russia has shown that it is currently unwilling to halt its aggression against Ukraine. The Kremlin rejects the possibility of direct dialogue between the two countries’ presidents, but such a meeting is not a prerequisite for reaching a ceasefire.

This was shared by Territorial Defense Forces serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko on 24 Kanal.

Musiienko noted that a ceasefire agreement does not have to be signed solely by the presidents. Despite Moscow’s reluctance to start negotiations, the possibility of stopping the fighting remains.

«I tend to believe that a bilateral meeting is still far off. But, paradoxically, I do not rule out that by the end of this autumn, we could reach a ceasefire. However, it would not be signed by state leaders, but by, for example, defense ministry representatives, as in the Korean scenario when generals signed the agreement, ” he said.

The expert suggested that large-scale combat operations could end, but Ukraine would then face the task of liberating its territories. Another possible outcome is a frozen conflict, where the situation temporarily stabilizes.

«Overall, a ceasefire has been discussed since March this year — since the meeting in Jeddah. Since then, international events have emphasized that this issue should be considered. Russia is simply not ready yet. They fear that a ceasefire temporarily cements the status quo. For us, however, this creates the possibility of eventually liberating occupied territories by military means, ” he explained.

Musiienko stresses that Russia can only be compelled to discuss ending the war through international pressure — sanctions, political, and diplomatic measures.
