Ukraine ballistic missiles: Expert estimates production timeline
Ukraine is ramping up its domestic defense industry amid the war, particularly in long-range weapons, but results will take time even with intensified efforts.
Ballistic missiles
The development of full-scale ballistic missiles will require at least four to five years, even with sufficient funding.
Ihor Fedirko, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Council of Defence Industry, said this in an interview with Novyny.LIVE.
«It does not happen instantly»
Developing modern ballistic systems is a complex process that cannot be completed quickly, even with available funding, Fedirko said.
«Let’s be honest: the state only began actively supporting manufacturers — providing grants to speed up development and diversify production only 12 to 18 months ago. Expecting results already now is unrealistic, ” he said.
He stressed that there are no «quick fixes» in the military-industrial complex
«It is not a simple process. Regrettably, there are things that cannot be achieved by funding alone — time is the essential factor,» Mr Fedirko added.
Technology more critical than funding
Fedirko also highlighted that the primary challenge lies not in financing, but in technological access.
«Creating such sophisticated architecture from the ground up, he warned, is „practically impossible“ without support from international partners,» the expert said.
