President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that there are currently no risks of a «buffer zone» being established in Sumy region. Ukrainian forces are preventing the Russian army from advancing along the border.

He said this while answering journalists’ questions.

Russian plans for «buffer zone»

The president said Russia aimed to create a «buffer zone» in Sumy and Kharkiv regions, but these attempts had been halted.

«It is no secret that Russians intend to establish a buffer zone in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. They have not abandoned this goal. But we have not abandoned ours; we have blocked them everywhere. Therefore, there are no risks in the Sumy region at this time, ” he said.

The president confirmed there was a problematic situation in one settlement on the border, which the military were addressing.

«We are aware of the situation on the border. There was an issue in one settlement. But the Armed Forces will resolve all such matters according to their tasks. You can see that we are fighting there, protecting our villages, civilian infrastructure, and cities. Russia targets civilian sites, while our targets are military, ” Zelenskyy said.
