Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a series of documents passed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. These include the law on multiple citizenship, the ratification of the Agreement on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression by Russia against Ukraine, and the suspension of Ukraine’s participation in the Ottawa Convention on anti-personnel mines.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
«I am grateful to the Ukrainian parliamentarians for supporting these decisions. Each one strengthens Ukraine, ” he emphasized.
What this means
As the Ukrainian leader noted:
Multiple citizenship: This will create stronger legal foundations for uniting our vast nation — millions of Ukrainians across all continents, as well as representatives of other peoples who have tied their fate to Ukraine.
Tribunal and international cooperation: Ukraine, in collaboration with countries and international organizations, will ensure the real inevitability of punishment for Russia for its war against Ukraine.
Use of certain weapons, including anti-personnel mines: This will allow Ukraine to achieve at least parity in the forces and means necessary to protect against Russian aggression.
«Russia has never been a party to the Ottawa Convention and has never taken honest steps within any policy of arms reduction or humanization of warfare practices, ” the leader stated
Zelenskyy instructed government officials to urgently develop and adopt all necessary secondary legislation to implement these laws.
«We can already begin identifying the first partner countries with which multiple citizenship will be implemented. I expect the government and the Office’s team to present a timeline for implementing the agreements on launching the tribunal. We are also intensifying defense-related decisions to support our warriors, ” Zelenskyy concluded.
