Russia is using more destructive “Shaheds”: What’s special about them
The new warheads on Russian drones have increased in weight — from the standard 50 kg to 90 kg.
Russian attacks by «Shaheds»
Russia is using Shahed-type combat drones equipped with two new types of combined warheads to strike Ukrainian cities. These upgraded drones cause greater destruction to both military and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
This was reported by Hromadske, citing Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Both of the new warheads have increased weight — from the standard 50 kg to 90 kg. One is produced in Russia, the other in Iran.
Both warheads have a combined cumulative, fragmentation, and high-explosive effect. However, the Russian-made warhead also has an incendiary effect.
Previously, Defense Express clarified that the incendiary effect of the Russian warhead is achieved by using a powdered metal hydride mixture, which can burn at temperatures up to 3,500°C.
Ukraine’s military intelligence emphasizes that with these upgraded drones, Russia can preserve its stockpiles of more expensive, high-precision missile weapons.
At the same time, the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence did not specify whether these enhanced enemy drones are being used primarily for attacks on civilian targets.
