This was shared by Spokesperson of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Svitlana Vodolaha on 24 Kanal.

Currently, emergency teams are dealing with smoldering at the site of the Chernobyl attack.

"The situation occurred after 2 a.m. Information about the strike and fire came in. Rescue units were immediately deployed. Several damage points were discovered, and fires had started at those locations. All fire outbreaks have been extinguished, and there is no open flame. Currently, we are working to eliminate the smoldering at one of the points, and the situation is under control," Vodolaha said.

Radiation levels

Regarding radiation levels, she reassured that they are within normal limits.

"We are constantly monitoring it. We have an automated radiation monitoring system that tracks the situation every second. This system was upgraded with the help of our partners. The information is sent every second to our Hydromet and to the IAEA. So, even if someone wanted to hide the readings, it would simply be impossible," she explained.

In addition to this system, emergency responders are manually measuring radiation levels. Vodolaha emphasizes that radiation levels at both the plant site and the exclusion zone are currently within the normal range.

As for the severity of the damage and its impact on the integrity of the structure, specialists will determine that. The spokesperson reported that climbers from the mobile rescue center have been sent to remove any structures that could hinder further work by experts in assessing the extent of the destruction.
