European diplomats are exploring options for creating international security forces that could be deployed in western Ukraine to support Kyiv in case of reduced support from the United States.

This was reported by Radio Svoboda, citing European sources.

According to the diplomats, direct involvement of American troops in such forces currently seems unlikely. Instead, another model of security support is being discussed, particularly air patrols over Lviv and surrounding areas, which have strategic significance as a transport hub for Ukraine.

The interlocutors emphasize that European countries seek to avoid direct "boots on the ground" involvement and are focusing on measures to secure critical infrastructure and logistics.

In addition, Europeans plan to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine, although, as sources acknowledge, it will likely be impossible to fully replace the scale of U.S. support. It is expected that financial aid from Europe will continue to flow.

Special hopes are pinned on the new German government, which is expected to be formed at the beginning of May. There is hope that Berlin will become more open to supplying Ukraine with advanced weapons systems, including Taurus cruise missiles, which Kyiv has been insisting on receiving for several months.
