Russian army may break through border: Expert names regions at risk

Russian occupiers are trying to capture even small portions of Ukraine’s border regions.

There is a risk that ground operations by Russian forces could begin in other regions of Ukraine, particularly those located along the border, military expert Ivan Stupak told Glavred.

He said the Russians plan to advance with a small number of troops 10–15 km into the territory of border regions.

“Currently, the frontline is 1,218 km long — an enormous stretch. There is a risk that Russia will try to seize small areas of our territory to use them later for bargaining. These territories will be used for negotiation purposes,” Stupak said.

At present, Russian forces control 230 sq km in Sumy region, but they may attempt to expand this zone. Chernihiv region, which also borders Russia, is also at risk.

“Shostka, Hlukhiv, and other settlements in Chernihiv region are under threat. The Russians will act like insects: crossing the border, spreading over small distances, and attempting to secure themselves,” the expert said.

Stupak also believes that Russia will try to block Odesa by targeting port infrastructure, as the port is crucial for Ukraine’s revenue.

“No port — no exports and no funding for the army,” Ivan Stupak concluded.
