The Russian invaders attacked Donetsk Region in the dark, when most local residents were sleeping, using cruise missiles launched from the long range and bomber aircrafts, TSN reports.
At the break of the dawn, a Russian missile hit a school in Kostiantynivka leaving a huge shell pit. Large piece of concrete smashed the bars in the school yards. After night Russian attack, the strong building made of brick does not have even a single intact window.
Later the local authorities confirmed, that the school in Kostiantynivka was attacked by two Russian missiles around 4:00 a.m. The missiles landed only 10-15 meters away from each other. The third missile, according to the locals, deviated from its trajectory. Ukrainian defense forces believe that these were Russian Kalibr-type cruise missiles.
Toretsk is another town in Donetsk Region, where the locals had to rush to the shelters around 4:00 a.m. A single, yet powerful explosion ripped to pieces a strong concrete fence, while a thick metal pipe was broken like a branch. Electrical wires, garages and windows in residential houses were crashed in one moment.
“There was a huge pit. It’s already backfilled now, but it was around 6 meters deep and wide. I guess it was something dropped from a plane. Well, I’m not a military, I cannot judge, but it was so powerful. Everything collapsed. Take a look at the gas pipes, they are bended over the roof”, a Toretsk resident says.
Night in the frontline areas of Donetsk Region is the favorite time for Russian shellfire terror. “It happens mostly at night! Late night or early morning. Sometimes there are days like today, when it’s more or less quiet. However, mostly they barrage pretty tough”, Bakhmut residents admit.
Serhii, a local resident, does not remember a single day without enemy attack. According to him, a day without human casualties is considered a lucky one.
Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Bakhmut, Toretsk – these towns in Donetsk Region are located at the various distance from the frontline, but in neither of them the locals, who still don’t dare to evacuate due to their own reasons, don’t feel safe enough.
Recently, the cluster bombs exploded in broad daylight only few meters away from Bakhmut central market. It’s not the first explosion here during the war, however some locals still prefer to risk their lives. “I’m single mother, I have children and I had to work in order to feed my kids. That’s the reason why I’m staying here despite bombs and shells. I have to eat something, and my kids have to eat something”, a local female worker says.
