Ukraine finds cheap solution to shoot down "Shaheds": Fedorov reveals new missiles

Ukraine has begun testing low-cost missiles to shoot down Russian "Shahed" drones and plans a rapid manufacturing surge.

Ukraine is developing cheap missiles to intercept Russian "Shahed" attack drones, with some solutions already entering the testing phase.

Mykhailo Fedorov announced this during a meeting with journalists focused on performance results.

According to him, the goal is not just to develop these missiles, but to rapidly scale production, so Ukraine has a sufficient stockpile of weapons for the autumn-winter period.

"Per the president’s directive, we are currently focused on developing cheap missiles to shoot down "Shaheds." We have already found solutions that are nearing readiness and have begun testing them. Our task is to scale production tenfold and secure a stockpile of these missiles for the autumn and winter period," Fedorov said.

He noted that Ukraine is also bracing for the arrival of jet-powered "Shaheds." To counter this, plans are underway to lower the cost and scale up interceptor missiles, which will serve as an additional layer of protection for critical infrastructure alongside interceptor drones.

"We want to scale up and lower the cost of interceptor missiles to prepare for jet-powered "Shaheds." This will provide extra protection for critical infrastructure alongside interceptor drones. To achieve this, we are issuing grants, scaling production, and relaunching team recruitment," he said.

The initiative aims to create a cheaper, mass-produced tool to counter Russian drones, which the enemy regularly deploys to attack Ukrainian cities, the energy grid, and other infrastructure targets.

According to Fedorov, 27 companies have already joined an experimental project to form air defense units based at corporate enterprises. Two of them, operating in the Kharkiv and Odesa regions, are already on combat duty and have destroyed around 20 Russian drones.
