Deadly strike on Dnipro: Death toll rises as rescue operations continue
Russia launched a massive assault on Dnipro: three confirmed dead as of now. Liquidation of the aftermath is underway.
Russia launched a massive strike on Dnipro
Dnipro survived a combined drone and ballistic missile attack tonight. The death toll has risen to three. Another thirty people were injured, including two young children. Russian missiles and drones slammed into the city center, shattering residential buildings and offices. A five-story apartment block took a direct hit. Fourteen victims are hospitalized; five remain in critical condition.
TSN correspondent Anastasiia Nevirna has been reporting from the scene since early morning.
Striking the heart of Dnipro
Shattered buildings, mostly historic landmarks, are engulfed in flames. The enemy once again launched treacherous strikes on the very heart of the city. The assault began with drones in the evening, escalating to ballistic missiles targeting civilian infrastructure overnight.
State Emergency Service rescuers spent the night clearing rubble and battling fires. Firefighting efforts continue at several locations.
Among the severely damaged sites is the Dnipro Museum of Art. The museum was set to celebrate its 110th anniversary this month. Instead, staff are forced to board up windows with plywood and patch roofs and shrapnel-scarred walls.
Eyewitness accounts
Dozens of apartments have been wrecked, with hundreds of windows blown out. Mykhailo, whose home is on the ground floor, says the only thing left intact is the front door. He narrowly escaped severe injury.
Mykhailo, local resident: “I felt I couldn't breathe; I woke up with a window lying on top of me. I immediately ran to my friends to check if they were alive. I got everyone out of the apartment, then the second explosion hit.”
Now, he is helping neighbors clear the debris. Meanwhile, residents queue at social service tents and mobile units to file claims for damaged property.
Among the victims is Nina. She was wounded by glass shards; even the folder of documents she holds is stained with blood.
“I was all bandaged up. Everything is gone, nothing left. I’m waiting for help. The window fell right on my head. Everything is smashed—the sideboard, the dishes, the TV,” she laments.
Neighbors added that they were "lucky," as a nearby building caught fire and burned to the ground.
Tragedy in Nikopol district
It was a brutal night in the Nikopol district as well. Russian strikes killed a 37-year-old man. Two others have been hospitalized in critical condition. The terror against the civilian population of the Dnipropetrovsk region continues.
