Ukraine and Syria have reached an agreement to reopen their respective diplomatic missions in Kyiv and Damascus in the near future.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this on X, following negotiations with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani.

«We have agreed to restore embassy operations in Kyiv and Damascus shortly—this is a vital step in strengthening our partnership,» the Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized.

According to him, the revitalization of political dialogue is already yielding tangible results in the economic sphere. Since the signing of the Joint Communiqué on the restoration of diplomatic relations, bilateral trade volumes have increased ninefold.

«We see clear opportunities for further expansion,» Sybiha said.

The parties also discussed security initiatives and the development of trade and maritime routes aimed at strengthening economic interaction between the two nations.

Special attention was paid to food security. Ukraine reaffirmed its readiness to support the region, particularly through the implementation of the «Grain from Ukraine» initiative.

Consequently, Kyiv and Damascus are moving from political agreements to the practical implementation of cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian sectors.
