Deputy Head of the Security Council and former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev stated that the war in Ukraine will continue until Russia «reaches its goals.» The Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council responded, describing his statement as proof of the Kremlin’s real strategic aim.

Andriy Kovalenko, Head of Ukraine’s CCD under the NSDC, posted this on November 17.

Kovalenko noted that Russia’s leadership has no intention of ending the war through talks and remains committed to its original plans for Ukraine.

«Medvedev is once again voicing Russia’s true goal. He says the war will continue until Russia reaches its goal, ” Kovalenko noted, ” Kovalenko wrote.

He noted that, in his assessment, Russia’s leadership aims to destroy Ukrainian statehood and forcibly push out as much of the population as possible.

Kovalenko also stated that, in his view, transforming Russia into a peaceful development model is impossible under the current political regime.

«They are incapable of living without war, their elites profit from it, and they need either a pause or Ukraine’s capitulation, ” he added.

«Strategy — outlast Trump»

Kovalenko believes Russia is following a long-term plan, which he characterizes as trying to «wait out Trump, ” potentially meaning either ongoing fighting or a temporary lull before resuming aggression.

Kovalenko further noted China’s potential role, which may have an interest in a weakened Russia dependent on it.

Despite the risks, Kovalenko expressed confidence in the eventual collapse of Russia’s imperial project.

«Empires fall. But — everything will turn out fine, ” he concluded.
