War reaches Moscow: Expert forecasts next Ukrainian strikes

An expert has broken down the logic behind strikes targeting Russian military facilities.

Attack on Moscow

Despite the Kremlin’s loud proclamations, Russia has proven incapable of fully shielding Moscow from air attacks. Furthermore, strikes on targets within the Russian capital and its suburbs are expected to intensify significantly in the near future.

The assessment was provided by Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman and military analyst Oleksandr Musiienko during a joint broadcast of Espreso and Slawa.TV’s «Ukrainian Focus. Morning» program.

According to his evaluation, a massive spiral of escalation is currently underway. As Russia continues to launch terror strikes against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, the Defense Forces are responding symmetrically by targeting military facilities deep inside Russian territory.

«This is natural, especially given the current stage of the war. We understand that we are now seeing another major spiral of escalation, where Russia carries out terror strikes on civilian targets. Naturally, we will respond. And based on current pacing, we will likely respond like this several times a week, hitting various Russian cities, diverse military assets, including Moscow,» Musiienko said.

Vulnerabilities in Russian defenses

The analyst recalled that Ukrainian forces gained successful experience overcoming the enemy’s air defenses around Moscow back in May. At that time, drones managed to breach the protective ring, reach the Moscow Oil Refinery, strike a pumping station, and hit several other targets in the Moscow suburbs. Following those operations, Ukrainian specialists analyzed the outcomes and developed tactics to bypass enemy radar systems.

As a result, the June attacks by the Defense Forces demonstrate high efficiency. Concurrently, the analyst noted severe technical failures within the Russian air defense system itself.

«It’s clear that by no means do all of their systems function correctly. I believe this applies to today’s attack as well. Far from all missiles hit their targets; some simply crash into the ground or buildings. They are facing a real issue there,» the serviceman remarked.

Next targets

Musiienko stated that even three to four defensive echelons around the Russian capital, along with emergency measures such as deploying Pantsir air defense systems on building rooftops, fail to guarantee the security of the Moscow region. Consequently, Ukrainian strikes will persist to systematically degrade the aggressor’s military capability.

Major military-industrial complexes located in the suburbs of the Russian capital now face an imminent threat of being targeted.

«The Moscow suburbs house major military-industrial complexes. There is the Zhukovsky center, at the very least, which handles issues related to Russian military aviation and missile production. There are other facilities as well. I expect they will also be attacked to degrade enemy capability and to demonstrate that the war on Russian territory has arrived not just in other regions and towns, but has already reached St. Petersburg and Moscow as well,» Musiienko concluded.
