President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Kyiv received no official proposal for a May 9 ceasefire—an arrangement reportedly brokered between the U.S. and the Russian aggressor.
Speaking to media, the president also stressed, that Ukraine was not party to these discussions. He noted that this is «Russia’s war against Ukraine,» while ceasefire discussions are being held between the United States and Russia.
«The Americans spoke with the Russians regarding what might happen on May 9: ceasefire or no ceasefire… No one has contacted us officially; nothing has been formally proposed,» he stressed.
Zelenskyy noted that while Moscow claims to seek a one-day pause, it continues to launch attacks on Ukraine and kill civilians. He stated that after such strikes, a temporary pause for a military parade is unacceptable.
«A ceasefire for one day, while they continue to kill our people, is dishonest, to say the least. Today it was Merefa, yesterday Dnipro—dead and wounded, adults and children. They want a holiday, and the morning after the 9th they will again be killing us, ” the Ukrainian leader said.
