Russia's defenses against Tomahawks: Aviation expert's assessment

The United States may supply Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, and Russia likely lacks effective countermeasures.

Any weaponry Russia could have used to counter Tomahawk missiles was deployed to Crimea, where it was successfully destroyed by Ukrainian defense forces.

Anatoliy Khrapchynskyi, deputy general director of a company producing electronic warfare systems and an aviation expert said this during a broadcast on Espresso TV.

"Russia sent everything it could use against Tomahawks to Crimea, where it was eliminated by our defense forces. Essentially, the Russian Federation's air defense system is like Swiss cheese, full of holes that allow us to actively exploit them for strikes on critical targets," he emphasized.

He says that Russia has long been deploying systems to counter drones, and its anti-missile defenses have not been tested in years.

Khrapchynskyi also highlighted that the speed of detection and interception depends on the density of air defense assets in a given region. Moscow and St. Petersburg are currently focusing on this issue to prevent Ukraine from employing such weapons.

"Once again, the Tomahawk is a rather intriguing missile that can alter its destination en route. This helps evade air defense systems," the aviation expert concluded.
