«They came in columns»: Ihnat on Russia’s tactics during massive drone attack

Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine on 24 March, but only about 15 drones out of more than 500 reached their targets.

Russian drones entered Ukrainian airspace in organized groups from several directions, including through the Chernihiv and Sumy regions. At least seven routes were recorded, Yurii Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command said during the morning broadcast of Ranok.LIVE.

Ihnat presented data from an airspace monitoring system used by Ukraine’s defense forces to repel enemy attacks.

«They came in columns through the Chernihiv and Sumy regions. These were only two of several directions. There were around five in total. All of them had to be shot down throughout the day yesterday. It was a tough situation,» Ihnat said.

He added that more than 500 drones were launched, but the effectiveness of the strikes was low, with only about 15 drones reaching their targets.

Ihnat stressed that Air Defence Forces operated under intense pressure, repelling simultaneous attacks from multiple directions. He urged respect for the «titanic work» of Ukraine’s air defenders.
