Ukraine has called on international partners to support an initiative for a total cessation of hostilities, stressing that peace must not depend on symbolic dates or celebrations.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha issued the statement while commenting on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s position regarding a potential truce.

According to the minister, if Moscow is truly ready to end the war, it can do so immediately—specifically, tonight. Ukraine, for its part, stands ready for a ceasefire starting at midnight on May 6.

Ukraine awaits global response

Sybiha notes that Kyiv has reached out to all partners, international organizations, and pro-peace nations with a request to back the initiative.

«This is a serious proposal to end the war and pivot toward diplomacy,» he stressed.

The Foreign Minister underscored that human lives hold far greater value than any «parades» or «celebrations» Russia might be focused on.

According to him, May 6 will be a defining date that reveals the Kremlin’s true intentions—whether Russia is ready for peace or intends to continue its military aggression.
