Ukraine lacks interceptor drones to fend off massive Russian strikes. While the technology has shown strong effectiveness, domestic producers are currently unable to meet the urgent needs at the front and in the rear.

This was said by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with diplomatic service staff.

He pointed out that interceptor drones have become a key element of air defense, though their performance varies depending on the manufacturer. Several companies are now developing them, with widely differing success rates in taking down targets.

«I think this is a very effective weapon. It is delivering solid results. Several companies are producing it. Frankly, not all of them achieve a 100% success rate — performance varies between 60% and 90% depending on the manufacturer. Still, we are expanding this direction, and the specifications are improving. As I mentioned, there are already several highly advanced companies, ” Zelenskyy said.

He added that the main barrier to fully securing Ukraine’s airspace is not just financing, but the technical ability of factories to manufacture the necessary number of systems quickly. With warnings of possible attacks on the energy grid during the winter holiday period, demand for these weapons is at its highest.

«We don’t have enough interceptors, and the issue isn’t just money anymore. Funding is always tight, but right now the shortage isn’t about money. There are technical challenges, and producers can’t make as many as we need, ” the president said.

Zelenskyy underlined that the government is working to enhance drone capabilities and helping manufacturers ramp up production.
