The threats made by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will not affect the operation of Ukraine's energy system.

This was stated by Director of the Energy Research Center, Oleksandr Kharchenko, whose words were quoted by RBC-Ukraine.

According to him, Fico's promise "really does not pose" serious threats to the disruption of electricity supplies to Ukraine.

"The volumes that Ukraine is currently taking from the European Union, we can easily compensate through another connection. The maximum that can happen is that Slovakia will lose additional money on top of what it is already guaranteed to lose from the cessation of gas transit," the expert said.

"Currently, Ukraine can receive up to 2.1 GW of electricity from the EU through four countries: Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania. If one of these countries refuses supplies, the required volumes within acceptable limits can be provided by the other three countries," he explained.
