In a week, “Energoatom” will shut down five nuclear power plant units for maintenance. A week ago, one unit came back online after repairs.
This information was shared by energy expert Stanislav Ihnatiev, Head of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy, on "Kyiv24".
"We have nine power units in the controlled territory of Ukraine. Six power units, totaling 6 gigawatts, are in the temporarily occupied territory at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Given this situation, nuclear generation forms the backbone of our energy system. Previously, two power units were under repair. We still have six units scheduled for maintenance. One of these is already being shut down. In a week, the remaining five power units will also be shut down," the expert explained.
According to him, last year “Energoatom” simultaneously shut down eight of the nine power units. Ihnatiev notes, that solar generation helped alleviate the situation then. Incidentally, sunny weather last week also supported Ukrainian power generation.
"Currently, electricity production from solar power plants has fallen by almost 20% due to the rainy and cloudy weather we've experienced in recent days," Stanislav Ihnatiev added.
