The situation on the front line remains tense – despite Ukraine’s successes in the Kharkiv region, the enemy continues to threaten other theatres.

Forces of Belarus may attack, experts warn; Fresh Russian forces are approaching from Crimea

Slobozhanskiy and Donetsk areas of the front remain the most heated – 12 attacks occurred over the last 24 hours, points out the military expert Oleg Zhdanov during the “Edinny Marafon” [united news marathon – red.].

The Russians are persevering in their attempts to break through the line of defence. “They attack effectively once every two hours”, - explains the expert.

Furthermore, the assault on “Azovstal” in Mariupol continues. In the Kharkiv oblast, however, Ukraine is conducting a counterattack. Zhdanov points out that Russia is attempting to hit two birds with one stone – to encircle the Ukrainian troops and to advance to the borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.

In addition, explains Zhdanov, Russian troops on in the Izum part of the front are about to reach the limit of their offensive capability, and therefore Putin will be forced to plug this gap, and forces of Belarus – which are currently based in operational areas near the borders of Ukraine – may become involved. The expert estimates the chances of this occurring as 50/50, as “Lukashenko claims one thing, but troop movements show the opposite''. This can occur in the coming weeks or even this week.

As for the Bessarabia theatre, the expert confirms that the professionalism of the Ukrainian soldiers on Zmiinyi island have upset the enemy plans. An enemy S-300 anti-aircraft complex was destroyed there, and attempts to install a new one are proving to be unsuccessful, thus the situation in the Bessarabia part of the front remains under control, and therefore the troops in Pridnestrovie will “sit tight”.

However, according to the expert, a large number of enemy vehicles is being amassed in Crimea, likely for the invasion of mainland Ukraine. It is likely that these forces will be operating out of Kherson.

Zhdanov also states that the frequency of missile strikes will not decrease. Everything points to the fact that Russia is expanding the nomenclature of missile types which it is deciding to use. These are Soviet-era weapons, and therefore it is impossible to accurately estimate their quantity.

The situation may be changed by the weapon systems which are already being delivered to Ukraine from its partner-states. This will enable our forces to shift to active defence, creating a shield of sorts over Ukraine.
