Russian State Duma Calls to Declare War on Ukraine
After the incident in the Bryansk Region, the Russian Parliament has started to talk about the need to end the "special military operation" and declare a "real" war against Ukraine.
On Thursday, March 2nd, Viktor Sobolev, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, said that Russia should officially declare war on Ukraine after the incident in the Bryansk Region. According to him, there are no more "red lines" left to cross.
His statement in a comment to Russian propagandists was quoted by the Moscow Times.
"We absolutely need to end the 'special military operation' and start waging a real war with the destruction of communications facilities and objects, with the detection of arms supplies. This should have been done long ago," Sobolev said.
The member of the Russian Parliament called for urgent strengthening of the borders "against the background of the activation of sabotage groups."
As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin has already called the incident in the border region a "terrorist attack" and threatened to "push" Ukraine.
On Friday, March 3rd, the Kremlin dictator will hold an operational meeting of the Security Council. At the same time, Putin's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov does not rule out changing the status of the "special military operation" in connection with the events in the Bryansk Region.
According to the Moscow Times, in January 2023, a group of State Duma deputies already proposed to abandon the term "special military operation" proposed by Putin at the beginning of the war in Ukraine: United Russia deputies Mikhail Sheremet and Yuri Shvitkin advocated for the declaration of a full-scale war, and Dmitry Gusev, a fair-minded deputy, advocated for a "counterterrorist operation."
