Ukraine Breaks Diplomatic Relations With Syria

Ukraine has officially announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Syria.

Ukraine Breaks Diplomatic Relations With Syria

This happened due to the fact that the non-independent Syrian regime recognized the fake entities "DPR" and "LPR".

"The non-independent Syrian regime carries out the orders of its curators in the Kremlin. Recognition of the so-called "independence" of the temporarily occupied territories in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions is an unfriendly act towards Ukraine, an encroachment on its sovereignty and territorial integrity. In response, Ukraine breaks diplomatic relations with Syria, introduces a trade embargo and other economic sanctions against Syrian legal entities and individuals," said spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko.

The official statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine refers to the severance of diplomatic relations with Syria without severing consular relations, in accordance with Article 2 of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

"Our position is clear - we react as harshly as possible to any attempts to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and protect national interests by all available means, including the diplomatic front," explained the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.

It should be noted, that due to the crimes of Bashar Assad's regime, Ukraine closed its embassy in Damascus back in 2016. In 2018, Ukraine ordered the closure of the Syrian embassy in Kyiv. The Ukrainian embassy in Lebanon protects the interests of Ukrainians in Syria.
