Ukrainian F-16s cannot compete with Russian Su-35s – Ihnat explains the reason

According to him, a comprehensive approach involving ground-based air defense systems, EW (electronic warfare) tools, and much more is needed to counter Russian aviation.

Ukraine received not entirely new models of F-16 fighter jets from its allies, which will not be able to fully compete with Russian Su-35s in an air-to-air combat scenario.

This was stated by Yuriy Ihnat, head of the public relations service of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by Novyny.LIVE.

He explained that Russia uses guided bombs, which they drop from a safe distance, and Ukrainian aircraft need to be capable of stopping them.

"Su-35 is a relatively new aircraft. A comprehensive approach is needed, including ground-based air defense systems, electronic warfare tools, and it would be ideal to have an air radar, as we were promised. Also, the onboard radar of our aircraft and weapons systems, meaning "air-to-air" missiles, must be such that they can reach the Russian aircraft faster and destroy it in the air," Ihnat said.
