Civilian Evacuation from Mariupol Was Once Again Disrupted by Russian Troops – Vereshchuk

Another attempt to evacuate Ukrainian civilians from the besieged city of Mariupol, Donetsk Region, was unsuccessful due to disruptive actions by Russian troops.

Russia once again failed to provide reliable security guarantees and comply with the ceasefire arrangements, Iryna Vereshchuk, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, reported.

"We did not manage to open a humanitarian route from Mariupol. Russia failed to confirm its ceasefire guarantees, therefore we will continue our attempts tomorrow”, Vereshchuk said.

Meanwhile, it is not the first time, when Russia disrupted the civilian evacuation from Mariupol. The previous evacuation was scheduled yesterday, on April 23rd, but the Russian troops forced the refugees to scatter, threatened them with artillery attacks and announced that the only available evacuation route was to the temporarily occupied town of Dokuchaievsk.
