Russia develops new weapons: Pletenchuk spoke about an idea stolen from the West

The idea that the Russians "borrowed" from high-tech countries involves using universal launch systems to fire different types of missiles.

Ukrainian Navy Spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk explains that Russia copied the concept of unified missile launch systems from other countries and is now trying to build them to launch "Kalibr," "Oniks," and "Zirkon" missiles.

This was reported by "UNIAN."

According to Pletenchuk, the general concept of modern shipbuilding involves creating modular ships that can be easily upgraded by replacing individual modules on a universal platform.

“There is such a concept as modularity. For example, you build a universal platform. It could be a small missile ship, a corvette, or a frigate. But the main idea is that you can change its weapon systems. For instance, if you develop a new air defense system in a ship variant or a new launch shaft, you can simply remove one container and replace it with another," the Spokesman explained.

He mentioned that the Russians currently do not have a real implementation of this idea. They allegedly wanted to realize it on the patrol boat "Serhiy Kotov," but it was sunk by a Ukrainian Armed Forces strike in March 2024.

“Such weapon systems need to be included in the ship’s design from the start. There are no such ship designs in the Azov-Black Sea region. Maybe they will eventually see them on other fleets,” the Navy Spokesman said.

Pletenchuk added that even if the Russians manage to build such universal launch systems, they are unlikely to significantly impact the balance of power on the front lines.
