Russia is preparing to send 60 thousand "cossacks" to the war in Ukraine

Russia will send 60 thousand "cossacks" to the war in Ukraine. They are going to be included in the mobilization human reserve and trained in military specialties.

Mobilization in Russia

The Russian government is preparing to establish a so-called “cossack mobilization reserve,” whose members will sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense of Russia and be sent to the war in Ukraine.

This follows from amendments to the law "On the State Service of the Russian Cossacks", which the State Duma of Russia will consider at one of the upcoming plenary sessions, as reported by the Russian publication “The Moscow Times.”

"Considering the existing military training of citizens who are members of cossack societies, they are one of the most sought-after categories of citizens in reserve for forming a mobilization human reserve," stated the author of the amendments, Russian State Duma deputy Mykola Doluda.

According to him, at the moment the "cossacks" can sign military contracts and participate in the war against Ukraine individually. However, including them in the mobilization human reserve will enable the Russian Ministry of Defense to train them in military specialties and send them en masse to the front.

The number of the "cossack" mobilization reserve will be determined by the military department based on its needs, Doluda added. It may be about 60 thousand people, or 40% of the 146 thousand members of the All-Russian Cossack Society who are eligible for military service in terms of age and health.
