Russia plans to use new ammunition: an expert explained the threat
It concerns an unguided cluster rocket projectile, which Russia showcased only this year.
The Russian military industry plans to produce 10,000 new unguided cluster rocket projectiles C-8KL by 2024, of which 5,000 will be transferred to the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Military expert, Chief Editor of Defence Express Oleh Katkov reported this on the air of the Espresso TV channel.
"This is a new type used by aircraft such as the Su-25, attack aircraft, and attack helicopters. It is an 80 mm cluster unguided rocket projectile, which is a version of the S-8. It was only showcased this year. The development of it was completed in 2022. There have been reports of orders," he noted.
According to him, it is planned to transfer 5,000 from the batch of 10,000 to the Russian Army Aviation Training Center, and another 5,000 to the temporarily occupied Crimea, to Dzhankoy, where the Russian military base is located.
"This is a cluster unguided rocket projectile that is fired from standard blocks like the B-8. Its range hasn't been disclosed but is stated to be over 4 km. The claimed weight is 7.7 kg. The projectile contains approximately 20 separate fragmentation-cumulative elements," the military expert noted.
Oleh Katkov explained that the enemy's use of such projectiles has low accuracy, but as for cluster unguided projectiles, the compensation for this low precision is achieved through the increased area of impact.
