According to Bucha Volunteers organization, the flask contained toxic mercury and most likely was stolen from Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which is indicated by the elevated radioactivity level.

“After returning home, a man from Bucha has discovered that his house was occupied by the Russian troops stationed in the town during their offensive. The man called the hotline of a local volunteer organization ran by the Bucha Municipal Community Administration. When the EOD team arrived on site, they discovered a laboratory flask with unidentified substance. The flask was sent for examination and testing, which revealed that the content was a poisonous chemical agent, i.e. the mercury. Moreover, the elevated background radiation level indicates that the flask was most likely stolen from Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant”, the official report reads.

The dangerous liquid was handed over to the hazardous waste management company for further disposal. The reason why the Russian troops carried the radioactive flask with poisonous content to Bucha  remains a mystery.
The flask contained around 400 grams of liquid metals. For reference, a normal medical mercury-in-glass thermometer usually contains between 2 and 4 grams.
