Yesterday, the Ukrainian authorities attempted to arrange civilian evacuation from the town of Popasna consistently attacked by Russian terrorist troops. Initially, the Ukrainian officers managed to successfully evacuate 31 civilians, however the number of refugees waiting in the line was too high, so two more evacuation buses were dispatched to Popasna.
However, as Mykola Khanatov, the Head of Popasna Military Civilian Administration reported on April 30th, the buses were attacked by the Russian military personnel, and any communication with the drivers was lost.
“We know for sure that they (the buses) had reached the town, but later were attacked by the enemy sabotage and reconnaissance squads. The buses were sprayed with bullets. Currently, we have no communication with the drivers and the officers responsible for evacuation arrangement”, Khanatov emphasized.
According to him, the invasion forces consistently attack Popasna resulting in significant destructions and death of many civilians killed by enemy shells. The central part of the town is devastated by ongoing hostilities and combat engagements. “There is no access to that area. We cannot reach the central districts in order to evacuate civilians or deliver humanitarian aid”, the Head of Military Civilian Administration added.
