The Ukrainian energy system cannot function properly without nuclear energy - an expert.

Nuclear energy is the backbone of the Ukrainian energy system, and normal electricity supply to consumers is essentially impossible without nuclear power plants.

This was stated by expert Henadiy Riabtsev, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.

"Nuclear generation accounts for over 50% of electricity generation in Ukraine. Can a system function without 50% of its generation? Yes, it can function, but consumers are unlikely to be satisfied with such operations," the expert emphasized.

That is why Russia, through its attacks on civilian energy infrastructure, aims to disrupt the operation of Ukrainian NPPs. To achieve this, the enemy targets the main substations of "Ukrenergo".

However, Ukraine is taking measures to prevent such attacks, including diplomatic efforts.

It is known that Ukraine intends to develop its nuclear energy sector, specifically planning to complete the construction of two reactors at the Khmelnytskyi NPP. The intention to finish building units No. 3 and No. 4 at the Khmelnytskyi NPP has been supported by representatives from the U.S. and the EU. Additionally, the IAEA plans to assist with the construction project.
