Ukraine expects the continuation of hostile attacks on energy facilities during the upcoming winter. The Ministry of Energy hopes for assistance from Western partners.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko spoke about this at the meeting of the G7+ Coordination Group on providing assistance to the energy sector of Ukraine.

According to his statement, the needs for energy equipment, especially high-voltage equipment, and systems that can facilitate decentralized generation, including gas turbines, remain relevant.

Galushchenko emphasized that the ability to import electricity from European countries will also be important. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the permission of ENTSO-E for the maximum capacity of interstate crossings up to 2 GW, which is technically possible today.

The Minister also informed the Western partners that Ukraine continues to build up natural gas reserves.

"Ukraine possesses the largest underground gas storage facilities in Europe and offers its European partners to use about 15 billion cubic meters of the gas storage facilities, which have been certified according to European rules," Galushchenko said.

He emphasized that such cooperation will be mutually beneficial for the European and Ukrainian sides, both economically and from a security perspective.

The participants of the meeting emphasized their readiness to continue supporting the Ukrainian energy sector, in particular with regard to the preparation for the next heating season amidst Russian attacks.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Geoffrey Pyatt, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, representative of the European Commission, Katarina Mathernova, Deputy Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Dirk Buschle, as well as heads and representatives of G7+ countries and international organizations.
